Manufacturers Embrace 8K Displays and More Voice-Enabled Devices
If you want to see where the world of smart home automation is headed, the annual Custom Electronics Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) expo is the place to be. This year’s show took place in Denver back in September, and the biggest names in consumer electronics showed us their latest and greatest products.
In the world of home theaters, there were two major trends among the various manufacturers’ merchandise: 8K displays and even more devices with voice control capabilities. THE COMING 8K REVOLUTION
Until very recently, 4K displays were the top-of-the-line product for home theaters. But a few 8K TVs have hit the market, and they’ve made a remarkable impression. An 8K display has a resolution of 7,680 by 4,320 pixels, two times the number of pixels that you’ll find with 4K models. (Most 4K displays have a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels.) Doubling the number of pixels actually means the density of pixels on screen is four times that of a 4K display. That doesn’t mean the image is four times as good as 4K, or even twice as good, but it’s still a significant improvement.
The main reason not to buy an 8K TV right now is the same reason some were hesitant about 4K a few years ago: the lack of content. While it’s easy to find 4K movies and streaming content now, at the outset most content was still being produced at 1080P HD resolution. However, just like with 4K, it’s inevitable that content shot in native 8K resolution will one day come to your screen. For now, 8K resolution streaks through TVs as a result of 8K upscaling technology.
Additionally, purchasing an 8K display now helps future-proof your existing system, putting you ahead of the curve. MORE VOICE-CONTROLLED DEVICES
As voice-controlled devices become more commonplace throughout homes and home automation systems, prepare for more devices to enter your home theater.
